64 million MNT will be provided to 520 vulnerable families
December 23, 2020The Caritas Czech Republic, a European Union-funded organization, handed over a 64 million MNT (18,200 Euro) humanitarian aid package to the Mongolian Red Cross Society yesterday. These assistance packages will be distributed to 520 vulnerable households affected by the quarantine regime caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The humanitarian aid package includes essential food, hygiene, and educational supplies for children and families. The Caritas Czech Republic has been implementing waste management projects for the past ten years. It aims to distribute these products to families who collect secondary raw materials at major landfills in Ulaanbaatar.
EU Resident Representative in Mongolia Traian Cristea said: “The EU recognizes that Mongolia’s vulnerable population is in a difficult situation due to the quarantine regime and restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 epidemic. This year, the European Union has provided € 37.5 million in grants to Mongolia’s health, economic and social welfare sectors. ”

Bolormaa, Secretary-General of the Mongolian Red Cross Society, said, “Since the outbreak of COVID-19 earlier this year, Mongolia has been fighting against it and has become one of the last countries to be infected domestically. Following the explosion, the Government of Mongolia has begun testing the population for COVID-19. After a period of transition to a high level of public preparedness and establishing a quarantine regime, a huge socio-economic impact on the vulnerable population.
